Lorelei rolled out of bed early. Well, early for her. It was really already nine. She hated getting up early, but once she was awake, she could never get back to sleep. She kicked the comforter off her feet and dropped to the floor, rubbing her face with her hands. She needed to wake up. She could feel it in her veins. She grabbed a pair of faded old jeans and a beat-up baby blue t-shirt and a towel, and stalked off to the bathroom. She took a scalding hot shower that took longer than she expected. She dried her hair and put on her clothes. She tossed her hair over and started to blow dry it, because if she didn't, she knew it would frizz up. She brushed her teeth. She put a little bit of makeup on her eyes, but that's all she bothered with that.
After all that getting ready, two hours had gone by, and the sun was well on its way to the top of the sky. She grabbed her black messenger bag and barreled upstairs to the Great Hall for breakfast. She usually didn't eat all day 'till dinner, but she had a big day today, three tests all in one day. She hurriedly found her usual spot at the table and started eating, eggs, bacon, and toast, her favorite. Ever. Everyone had already gotten their letters, and Lorelei saw her owl, Hawk, circling up at the ceiling. The bewitched celing showed that today was not rainy, but rather dark and cloudy, with little spits of rain coming out of the angry sky. The wind was howling. Hawk spotted her and flew down to her, dropping a letter before swooping away to go to sleep. Lorelei opened the letter. It read,
Ms. Lorlei Mason; We are sad to inform you that your father, William Mason, has passed away. While he was working late last night, he had a heart attack, and there was nothing medics could do to save him. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss where you will live during the summers and what you will inherit from your father.
Dearest regards,
Lorelei was too sad to read the rest of the letter, who would dare tell her that she was an orphan. She was an orphan. Her dad was so important to her. She loved him with all her heart. They were very close, almost inseperable. And now, her only ties to this earth were shattered.
She made her way through the day, and all day, it was cloudy and rainy, but not exactly tunder-and-lightning storming. She took her tests and failed them. She cried and cried and cried, the whole day long. And at the end of the school day, she knew what she needed to do.
She wrote off a quick note to Saint.
I love you no matter what. Never forget that. But don't come looking for me.
Lorelei made her way up, up, up. She kept going and going, not really knowing where she was going, although her feet sure did. She pushed open a heavy door, and made her way out to the open balcony. It was nighttime now, but she couldn't see the stars. She didn't care if she ever saw the stars again. It was cold, freezing cold, actually. The sharp rain hit the parts of her skin that were bare. The wind violently whipped her dark hair, slashing it into her eyes. But in a few minutes none of that would matter. She lifted herself up to the ledge. And she poised herself to jump.

Waking up to the sound of his loud alarm clock, Saint turned it off and rolled over in his bed. Looking over at the window across the room, he could see it was a cloudy and messy day. He hated the idea of even waking up. Cloudy days made him gloomy at times. Kicking the bed sheets off him, he walked over to his dress and pulled out a pair of skinny jeans and a black shirt. He dressed in the clothes and walked to the bathroom. Washing his face and combing his black hair, Saint looked at himself in the mirror for a long time. He had a feeling today was going to be one of those long and slow ones.
Making his way down to the Great Hall, he sat at the spot he would always sat at and ate a small bit of eggs and some toast. As he ate, his eyes looked over that the Slytherin table for a long time. Not seeing Lorelei there, he guessed she had picked to sleep in. He didn't worry too much as he knew he would see her later on today.
Classes seems to take forever, having to write a paper in one and a test in another. Once classes were over for the day, Saint made his way down to the Great Hall again for dinner. As he walked over to the Ravenclaw table something laying in the spot he sat at grabbed his eyes. Picking up the paper, his heart felt like it stopped. Reading Lorelei hand writing he soon ran over to the Slytherin table were she would sit at. Asking the people she mostly sat with where she was at, most said they didn't know, but one told him they had seen her walking up to one of the towers.
Running up and up, higher and higher on the stairs, Saint didn't dare look back at the faces he would pass. He prayed he could find her, something wasn't right. He could feel it wasn't, this was unlike Lorelei to run off. Pushing open the large wooden doors that lead out to of the tower. He froze in his steps, this couldn't be happening. Seeing Lorelei standing on the ledge of the tower, about to jump. "Lorelei! Stop! Don't do it!" He screamed at her. Running over to her, he looked up at her, he wasn't going to let her jump, never. "Get down, please." He begged her as he held his hand out to her for her to take.

Lorelei heard the pound of footsteps. She heard the desperate, fevered voice that she knew belonged to Saint. She knew she'd done herself in. She'd left that note and he'd somehow tracked her down. How the hell...? Well, she didn't want to know, or else she'd kill the person who told him. She didn't want him to find out. She didn't want him to have to try and stop her. She didn't want to hurt him like that. But here he was. He was screaming at her, begging her not to take her life. But what did he care? It wasn't his life that was at risk.
"What the hell, Saint?" she screamed at him, finally turning around to look him in the face. "I told you not to come. I warned you. And what do you do? You come storming out here, acting like a moron! What are you, retarted?" She was furious. Usually she would try to calm her anger a little better than this. And she didn't want to be angry with him. She just... was. "Leave me the fuck alone. I don't want to be with you anymore. I just want you to go away." She hissed as she said the last part. She knew it wasn't true. She never ever wanted him to go away. Well, except just now. Just now, he could leave, and let her do what she needed to do, and then he could grieve about her all he wanted. Her dark hair blew fiercly around her face, and her eyes, the same very ones who had looked lovingly at him a hundred thousand times, were now cold, hard, and disdainful. She wanted him to go away. "If this damn thing you call a life isn't good enough for me, then why can't you just let me go?If you love me, why won't you just let me jump?" she shreiked over the sound of the wind.

This was the side that Lorelei had talked about, the mean and angry side. The side Saint had never seen before. Hearing Lorelei yelling at him for even coming up there and trying to stop her were like knives hitting his ears. What was he supposed to do, not come and worry his whole life? If he didn't stop her and she did take her life, he would regret not ever coming. Hearing her once more scream at him to leave and go away, Saint didn't move. "I can't let you do this Lorelei. You just can't throw away who you are, there are no more chances to start over."
He bit his lip as he felt the cold wind hit his face. His eyes grew watery, something they would always do when he would get scared. "Lorelei, I do love you. But I can let you do this. You mean too much to me. I care about you and I'm not ready to let go yet. With you in my life, I felt like I can smile and knew things are going to be okay. Please don't do this. I beg you, Lorelei. Please come down." He could feel tears fell down his cheeks, as hold his tears in didn't work and the wind wasn't making it any better.

She felt her heart stop as he said those things to her. That he cared about her too much to let her do this. And that he loved her. No one had said that to her, not seriously, anyway, other than her father. But no. Lorelei could not let it get to her. She had set her mind on doing this, and god damn her if she didn't accomplish what she set out for. She was headstrong. Determined. And pissed off as hell. What she said next, she knew she didn't really mean. She knew as soon as she thought it that it wasn't true. It was the exact opposite of true. But she had to say it. It would break him. Break him and hopefully get him to leave her alone.
"Well, I don't love you," she yelled, her voice still strong. "I don't love you back. I just want you to leave me alone and let me do what I want to do! And I honestly don't care if I ever see you again!" Her voice cracked on the last word. Seeing him cry made her cry. And hearing her harsh, lying voice made her cry some more. She did a good job of concealing it. She let the sobs stay inside. She barely even let the water run out of her eyes. She was not a messy crier.
She turned back around to face the grounds of the school. She wanted to do it. She wanted to die so badly. She wanted to leave this place. She hated it, and everyone in it. Or, so she told herself to stem the tears. She did not want to look at his face anymore. She poised again to jump.

Tears falling down his face, Saint bit his lip, trying to stop them but they kept coming. Hearing her words that slipped past his lips, if words could kill it would had done it to him. He didn't believe what she was saying, was it true? He didn't think it was, thinking it was just something for her to say so he would walk away. But Saint didn't move. "It's not true! You said you loved me, on the note you left me. I don't believe you could lie about that, anyone that would must have ice that run through their veins." Saint felt his eyes burning from crying so much.
Watching Lorelei turning back around to jump again, he stated to feel anger get to him. "Lorelei! I'm not going to let you do this." Without even thinking, Saint reached his arms up for her and started to pull her to come down. "You can throw your life away. We need you here. I need you. I've lost too many people to death in my life and I don't want one of them to be you." He meant every word he said, she had to come down.

Lorelei didn't turn around when Saint accused her of that fricking letter. "Saint. You don't think I could just absentmindedly write that to keep you away? I didn't think twice about it." She was lying through her teeth. But she was a good lier. Lorelei didn't turn around again until he grabbed her around the stomach. She glared at him with such intensity that it stopped her own tears. She was selling herself her anger. "Let GO of me!" she screamed at him. She wrestled one of her amrs free and smacked him, hard, across the face. That'll teach him she thought maliciously. Deep, deep down, she felt bad about this. But she was so angry, so determined, that it masked her own emotions. "I don't love you, and I never will! So just let me go!" she shreiked.
Her hair was soaking wet. So were her clothes. She felt sick, like she was going to pass out at any minute. She felt like she was going to collapse at any moment. No! she screamed at herself. This whole thing wasn't even about jumping anymore. It was about proving that she was right, and hurting Saint as much as possible. She was not going to pass out. She was not. She felt her legs start to give out a little bet, and she stumbled a little on the ledge. But she kept her gaze firm with him, boring into his soul with her evil eyes.

His arms holding her around her stomach, Saint heard her scream at him to let her go. He wasn't going to let her go, she had to get down before she did something stupid. Soon he saw her free on of her arms, her hand slapping him across the face, really hard. This of course made Saint let go of her, his hand going to his cheek. He felt like scream and maybe even running off crying. But it sounded like something a Hufflepuff would do, and he wasn't going to give up.
Lorelei's still stung in his ears, it couldn't be trued and Saint wasn't going to let it. All he wanted to do now was get her off the ledge and prove to her that she was wrong. Looking into her eyes he could see a mean and evil look that he never had seen in Lorelei before, but it didn't stop him, he cared about her too much.
Seeing her stumble some on the ledge, Saint could tell she looked kinda dizzy as if she was going to fall not by choose. Wrapping his arms around her again, he lifted her off the wall. Placing her feet back to the ground he tried to get her to look at him. "Now. What is going on to make you hate the world so much now? Tell me. I want to know." It kinda sounded like he was pressuring Lorelei, but there had to have been a reason to want and kill yourself.

Lorelei tried to kick and struggle free at first but he had too good a hold on her, and she felt her feet kicking against the air as he lifted her up and back onto the ground. She tried to squirm and struggle her way out, but she was too weak, too exhausted, and he was too strong. She let the tears come now. She was sobbing. She was shaking and cryng at gasping for breath. She couldn't stand it anymore. She just couldn't fathom what was going on. She wanted him to comfort her, but she didn't. She wanted him to go away, but she wanted to stay in his arms. She wanted to tell him why she was trying to jump off a tower, but she really, really didn't. She felt the urge to tell him it was because she was with him. She wanted to tell him that she didn't love him, that she never wanted to see him again. But she couldn't lie to him anymore. She was too weak. Too sick.
"My dad died," she said, barely above a whisper. Just loud enough for Saint to hear it. "He died. Last night. And I came out here, thinking, 'What do I have to live for? What do I have to lose?'" This part really was true. She hadn't barely thought about him at all as she made her death climb. She wanted to tell him she was going, but she didn't care enough to stick around and be with him. "I didn't consider... how it would hurt you Saint. I knew what I had to do and I came here to do it. Maybe you should consider my inconsideracy before you try and march up here and save me next time." She cried some more. She didn't try and break away anymore. She just stood there, wrapped up in his arms. She didn't lean on his shoulder to cry, and she definitely did not hug him back. She just stood in the freezing cold rain, shivering, and crying.

Seeing the tears now falling from her eyes as he now put her back on the ground. Not moving his arms from around her, Saint listened to her cry. He hated to see any girl cry, but mostly Lorelei, it hurt him more. Hearing her speak about why she had picked to do this, to kill herself. He felt her pain, Saint never had had a father, one thing cause he had left before he was born. But he had lost his mum, it was hard to loss someone you loved. He could understand why she had pick to do this now.
"Lorelei, I'm sorry to hear this. I lost my mum...I never had a dad, so I don't know that feeling. But I know the feeling to loss someone you love and were very close to. I wanted to help you Lorelei...leaving something to tell me to come find you gives me the idea that something was wrong." He bit his lip and tried to hold her close to him, but knew he was going to feel her push away soon. But she looked cold and she was shivering in his arms, he soon pulled her close to him, hopping the warmth from his body would go into hers.

Lorelei was sad to hear about his mum and dad. And she let herself sink into him for a few moments. But she thought better of it a few moments later. "No. No, no, no." She pulled away from him. He wasn't expecting it, so she got away easily. She hated that she had to do this, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She knew that maybe jumping off a huge castle wasn't the best idea. But she couldn't be with him... not right now. "Saint. I can't do this. I can't do this with you. Everything that happened before... and today. I can't be in a relationship. Especially not with you. I didn't even think about you when I ran off up here, Saint! Doesn't that just... make you feel like shit? Because it sure as hell would me." She sighed and walked over to the ledge, but she dind't stand up on top of it again. She sat down, still facing it. She crossed her arms over her chest, trying to keep in her remaining body heat.
She was breaking up with him. He was being so good, so patient with her, and she was letting all of that go. She knew that she needed to. She was immature and selfish. He needed to be with someone his own age. "Saint..." This was hard for her to say. "Go find a girl your age. Maybe your own house, even. Let her be happy and fun and carefree. Let her make you happy. Find someone with some of the same interests as you. The same maturity level. But you have to leave me. You have to let me be."

Holding Lorelei close to him for a moment felt nice, he hated to see her cold like this. But soon he heard her started to hear her say no and pull away from him. He watched her moving from him and start to speak, when he heard her say started to break him. She was breaking up with him, he felt sad coming to him again, but he didn't let it show. Hearing how she really didn't think about him when she had ran up to the tower. Yeah, it did make him feel like shit. It hurt a lot, mostly when you thought the girl you loved, loved you back.
Watching her walk over to the ledge again, her arms crossed over her chest as she sat. Saint bit his lip and looked down at his shoes, he didn't know what to say. Hearing her speak about find someone else, someone his own age and in the same house. Saint nodded lightly, not looking up at her just yet. "I understand..you need some time to yourself now...your still hurting and...you don't need me to but in." Looking back up at her, Saint walked back over to her and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "But...I'll be here for you whenever you need someone.." He meant it with all his heart. He still loved Lorelei and had a feeling he always would.

Lorelei looked up at him. Her tears were gone. She had to be strong, or else she couldn't trust herself to follow through. "Thank you. For understanding, and everything." She sighed and held her head in her hands for a few minutes. She started to shake violently again. She could practically feel herself getting sick. Sick with the world, sick with herself... actually, no. She was just sick. She stood up and looked longingly toward the door, toward the warmth. "Well. I guess... I guess this is it, then," she sighed. She looked back at Saint one more time. She felt herself practically being pulled to the door, but she didn't want to leave. She hated herself right now. "I... I better get to the hospital wing," she said, after a fit of coughing. She still felt as if her legs were about to go out underneath her. She started to walk to the door. The warmth hit her full in the face as she opened the wooden door. She breathed in lightly. Stealing one more glance at Saint, she slipped inside, out of that nightmare, and into a new one.

Saint nodded again and watched her start to shake again. He felt bad for her, she didn't look like she was feeling the best right now. Walking to the large wooden door, he heard her give a cough and say she was going to the hospital wing. Watching her leave, Saint gave a sigh. Looking back out at the cloudy night, he felt like everything was a mess now, he just wanted to crawl up into his dorm and stay there for a day or two before facing people for a while.
His eyes went back to the door, he wished he could go run after he, go help her to the hospital wing to see if she got there safe. Opening the door, he ran down the stairs, looking for her. He soon spotted her not too far away. Walking up close to her, he took in a breath of air before speaking. "Could I walk you there? Or no?" he asked her in a softly voice.

Lorelei heard footsteps (again) and knew it was Saint following her again. Shit shit shit shit shit! Didn't this guy ever take a hint? But as soon as she turned around and saw the pitiful look on his face, she grudginingly agreed. "Yeah. I guess." She turned again and started walking again. "Y'know... well, I've been meaning to ask you this for a long time... but... why do you care so much? About me?" she sighed, knew this wasn't the right kind of question to ask right now, but she didn't particularly care. She never cared. She was back to not caring. "You just... you're too good for me and I think you know it. So why do you care? Why did you care if I lived or died? No one... no one but my dad... ever really cared about me. I just don't get why you do. Sorry. I'm rambling." She sighed and continued to walk, her arms crossed over her chest.
